SpaceX employees and their family members enrolled in the Medical EPO, PPO, Guide PPO, or HDHP can consult with leading physicians about their treatment plan or diagnosis through 2nd.MD, at no cost!  

 

What services does 2nd.MD offer?
2nd.MD connects individuals facing high impact medical conditions with elite specialists via live video for educational consultations. They also offer their Text-A-Clinician service for general medical questions and Personalized Local Support services to help members find in-network, high-quality local physicians to carry out their treatment plan.​

 

Can 2nd.MD help with my condition?
2nd.MD provides consultations for members with a range of medical conditions – everything from autism to zika. Their panel of elite specialists covers all adult/pediatric specialties and subspecialties defined by the American Board of Medical Specialties. In fact, there has never been a condition they were unable to match with a specialist, no matter how rare or complex the member’s condition is. The only conditions they don’t cover are primary care conditions like the cold or flu.

How can I request a consult?
Members can simply call 2nd.MD's Care Team at (866) 841-2575 or visit the member portal online at www.2nd.md/spacex or on their mobile app to arrange a consultation.​

What happens when I request a consult?
Upon request for a consult, 2nd.MD assigns a dedicated nurse care manager to the member who will guide and stay with them through the process. The nurse collects information from the member about their medical concerns and obtains a release of information form so 2nd.MD can collect all the medical records needed for the consultation.

Who collects my medical records?
2nd.MD does! They use their proprietary process for collecting medical records and securely digitize and store these medical record in their platform. All the member needs to do is tell 2nd.MD where to get their medical records and sign a release of information form electronically.

How is a specialist chosen for my consult?
2nd.MD’s Care Team nurse uses a proprietary, internal system to match elite specialists to a member’s consultation based on their expertise with the member’s conditions, in addition to the member’s health goals. They give members a choice of two specialists and the member always gets the final say in which specialist they would like to speak with during their consultation.

How do I know I’m meeting with a quality specialist?
2nd.MD only contracts with the top specialists in the country for expert opinion services. They use a data-driven process to hand pick specialists at the top of their fields based on their education, training, involvement and research and work for the top hospitals. This includes leaders in research, department heads, and the physicians for professional sports teams.

What’s the consult like?
Members meet with a specialist live by phone or video, depending on their needs and preferences. Together they discuss the member’s diagnosis and treatment plan options. This gives both the member and the specialist the opportunity to ask questions and get answers in real-time that can help guide the conversations and, ultimately, the recommended treatment plan. Within 24 hours, the specialist provides a written summary of their discussion.

Can I bring family members or my physician to the consult?
Absolutely. The member is welcome to invite additional family members, caregivers or their treating physician if desired.

What happens if I still have questions after the consult?
After the consult, the member’s dedicated nurse continues to follow up with them on an ongoing basis until the member achieves their desired health outcome.
